Let's Get the Big Money Out of Elections

Kelly took the case for getting big money out of politics to Newsmax, because this isn’t a Republican issue or a Democratic one. Spending in this year’s midterms is closing in on $11 billion, about $1.5 billion more than in 2024. District 16 shows where that money goes. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has poured tens of millions into races across the country, and his company SpaceX wrote a $10,000 check to Sydney Gruters’ campaign. In September alone, her campaign took in nearly $250,000 from political committees tied to sitting Republican members of Congress. She is the wife of Joe Gruters, national chair of the Republican Party. Kelly’s campaign has refused corporate PAC money and is powered by people across this district. He has done this work before. As Sarasota mayor, he stood up to powerful interests and led the effort to get big money out of local elections. He challenged utilities, fought developers, and exposed corruption. In Congress, he’ll work to ban stock trading by members and to pass term limits. Vote for Kelly by November 3 so he can bring that reform movement to Washington. Let’s fix this.
